Scooter School

Padua boy Hayden O'Connor
ALL the tips for scooter skate park tricks will soon be up for sale in Albany Creek.
Enoggera skate park talent Hayden O’Connor will be hosting scooter lessons in Albany Creek from next month after he was called on by an Albany Creek mum to share his skills with her two young sons.
The 16-year-old Padua College schoolboy will be handing out tips for the flips and whip tricks that have won him many fans online and in Brisbane skate parks as well as a sponsorship deal with Moonwalk Scooters and Pimp My Closet And Rides for team MGP Hayden began riding scooters three years ago because it was a different, fun sport.
``It’s really easy to start and you can learn it really quickly. It’s really popular with the little kids.’‘
The self-taught scooter rider said he would have loved to have had a role model to teach him tricks when he was starting out, and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with young fans.
``There are a lot of little kids that watch and ask for tips. I like helping out the little kids,’’ he said.
``Anyone can start as long as they have a scooter and are excited to go out and ride in a skate park and meet new people.’’
The scooter lessons were the brainchild of of Jennifer Jarvinen, who has watched interest in scooter riding grow since her sons Lewis, 12, and Oliver, 10, started riding earlier in the year.
She said she couldn’t find scooter lessons anywhere in Brisbane so decided to organise themherself.
By a stroke of ``small world’’ luck she was able to get in touch with the very scooter rider which her two boys idolised on YouTube.
She said the lessons would be open to everyone but would probably target around the 10 year age group.
Mrs Jarvinen said by taking lessons it was not only safer, but children would have the chance to learn tricks they might not otherwise be willing to try out in front of a skate park audience of older riders.
